DeHaan Hall

Welcome

Attending a boarding academy and living in the dorm provides its own unique experience. Living on campus means you are front and center for every school event, S.A. Competition, and campus activity. As a dorm student, you learn responsibility, time management, and the skills to take care of yourself and space. In DeHaan hall, you will enjoy the diverse and different personalities all living and working together. Whether it is cooking in the kitchen, worshiping in the chapel, study hall in the lobby, or simply hanging out in your room, there’s so much to do and be a part of. Friendships are formed and grown through the year by working on academic projects, competing in class competitions, and practicing sports and/or music. Being a dorm student means you are completely immersed in all that campus life has to offer!

Mission and Vision

We will endeavor to provide residents with a Christ-like, safe, healthy and supportive family-like environment. We will work towards achieving the best possible spiritual and educational goals.

Girl's Club

An integral part of dormitory life is participation in the Girls’ Club, a group that promotes friendship amongst the girls of HVA. Membership is open to all residents and community students. The primary focus of the club is to provide a healthy avenue for the students to develop a sense of community while organizing various social events for the dorm and the school. Officers will be chosen in the first quarter of school to plan events throughout the year.

Language Studies

Study Hall

During study hall the dorm is to be quiet and distractions minimized so that residents can be focused and productive. Study Hall is located in the lobby and will begin at 8:30 each night.

Study hall hours are determined by a resident’s grade average. If a resident has a grade average of 64 or above, she has no study hall. If a resident has an average below 64, or depending on the circumstances, on the DF&I list she has one hour of strict study hall in the lobby with the Dean on Duty or RA.

All new residents begin the year with relaxed study hall which will then be adjusted after grade reports are generated.

Bedroom

Housekeeping

Residents are responsible for keeping their rooms, hallways and bathrooms tidy. They are expected to treat school property with respect and care. Any vandalism or destruction of dorm property will result in financial accountability.

There will be room inspections a minimum of twice weekly.

Each room is outfitted with a bed/mattress, desk, dresser, closet, and drawers for each resident. Each room also has a sink and a mirror. Rooms have heating in the winter and cooling in the warmer months. Bathrooms are assigned and include a shower and a toilet stall. Basic cleaning supplies are provided, but students are advised to have their own as well.

We ask that residents discuss space with their roommate before bringing couches, loveseats, extra chairs, entertainment cabinets, or coffee tables, as space in the rooms is limited.

"The best and most beautiful things in the worldcannot be seen or even touched- they must be felt with the heart."
